As a freshman in the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service who has taken and passed the Map of the Modern World exemption exam I feel that I have a unique perspective to offer in the debate over the propriety of the recent changes made to the “Map of the Modern World” curriculum by Dean Reardon-Anderson.

Conservatives have always been noted for their traditional sense of romance and general good taste. In keeping with this tradition, here are some ideas to help you spend your Valentine's Day the red way:

1.Try the meatloaf, rarebit, or corned beef and cabbage at Martin's Tavern. The Nixon booth is my personal favorite. Just try to avoid the Kennedy and Johnson booths.

2.If the weather cooperates, take a moonlit walk around the tidal basin.

Many Hoyas look forward to that exciting moment when they will finally be upperclassmen and have the chance to secure a lease on a townhouse with their friends. Once they have moved in, they imagine that they will live together in a fun, relaxing environment. If only that were always the case: instead, they often face opposition from surrounding residents.

November 5, 2008 marks the beginning of a new era in American politics, defined by hope for the future and “change that we can believe in.” The historically significant opportunity that awaits the Republican Party, not Barack Obama’s victory, should be cause for the aforementioned optimism. At this time, Republicans can embrace the ideals of the Founding Fathers and seek guidance from the United States Constitution, stepping away from partisan politics and towards historical leadership.
